Attack on Titan (Season 1-2 + OVA’s) – A Pocket Review

One of the best and definitely one of my favorite anime. It is not without its problems like everything, but I must say that it’s incredible. If you don’t know, it is about humanity trying to survive the threat of the Titans, creatures that almost no one knows anything about. Attack on Titan is returning this year for its third season and I’m really excited for it. It is not just another anime to add to the long list of already existing anime with violence. It has a different kind of charm to it and some deeper themes sprinkled throughout it. For what I’ve seen of what has come out thus far, it has absurd potential. Get Out – A Pocket Review

An Oscar-worthy movie disregarded by the Academy. Some time ago I was looking at the news and one popped out about a member of the Academy that had criticized the movie without having actually seen it. According to the news, the member declared that it was “not an Oscar movie”. This is wrong and makes the event itself look bad. The Shape of Water – A Pocket Review

A good movie wrongly awarded. There is a beauty to this movie, not only one actually. The main plot of the mute woman finding her voice and confiding it to this sea creature is beautiful. The soundtrack is impeccable and memorable. There is also a beauty to the scenery and how things are set up around the characters that give it a very specific and interesting feel. Characters are interesting and have their own stories and pasts, most of them at least give this idea. However, I must say that it is not the movie that should have won the Oscars. I could see it winning, but it wouldn’t be my choice. Continue reading “The Shape of Water – A Pocket Review”

REC² (2009) – A Pocket Review

An over the top disappointing sequel to a great movie. After such an intense film as its predecessor, REC² had a lot to live up to. It is understandable that the directors wanted to adapt the plot to make it work on an entirely new live-action movie, however, the plot twist introduced in the beginning was so sudden that threw me off. After that, my eyes started focusing more and more on the problems that were rising as the movie went. When I watch something, I pay attention to mistakes, but if the good points outweigh the bad by a long shot, I tend not to notice them as much. It is like the bad parts are overshadowed by the good ones. This is not the case here. Continue reading “REC² (2009) – A Pocket Review”
